Every choice you make, is the right one...
Mihalis Monemvasiotis was born in Athens, Greece in 1986. His passion for telling stories started at the age of 10 when he wrote and directed his first short play, with many more to follow. His first encounter with a real film set though came two years later when he got a main part, as an actor, in the Greek TV-drama Despinis Karava. As soon as the filming was over, he believed that this was one of many to come.
After high-school, he studied Cultural Technology and Communication at the Aegean University, in Mytilene where he achieved a BA Hons in Digital Audiovisual Arts. His dissertation entitled How to make a short film
included his first short film Nowhere making the official selection to represent Greece in the European Union Cultural Capital scheme Europe in Shorts. Nowhere was also the first part of his thematic trilogy on the different aspects of reality and the multitude of ways that people perceive it.
In 2009 he moved to Denmark to study practical film-making at the European Film College, during which he started working as freelance editor. In Denmark, he worked on various short films, documentaries and music videos including the second film in his trilogy entitled When I close my eyes. After graduating in 2010, Mihalis returned briefly to Greece where he directed the short film Only inn within 2 days walk (official selection Drama Int Short Film Festival, Sequence court-metrage Toulouse) alongside Danish director Anders Bastruup Jansen.
Soon after that, he was offered a place at Central Film School London on the one year coarse in Advanced Directing. The main focus of the course was directing actors to secure great performances. Part of this included lectures at some of the biggest acting schools in New York such as the Lee Strasberg theatre and film institution, the Stella Adler studio of acting and the Atlantic Theatre Company.
Meanwhile, he continued working as a freelance editor in corporate videos, documentaries and short films.
He graduated from Central Film School in 2011 having created three more short films including SLEEP shot on 16mm film and award winning Every night I am falling out of nowhere the final part of his trilogy (official selection New York City Int Film Festival 2012, Raindance Film Festival 2012, Detmold Film Festival 2012, TAKES Film Festival 2012, winner for best screenplay award at Cyprus International Film Festival 2012).
In December 2011, after assisting in the production and post-production of the feature film The Telemachy directed by Alexander Nally, he began writing his first TV-series in collaboration with writer/director Eolan Power.
Currently he lives and works in London, UK. He has a feature film and two TV series under development.
